Born in 1991, Surprise! Is a female in L pod, and the younger sister of L55 Nugget. Surprise! Has had two now-dead calves, L120 and L112 Sooke, who both passed away at young ages. Sooke was hit by a ship during military training in the Puget Sound. Her older surviving calf is L106 Pooka. On February 17th, 2021, Surprise! was spotted with a brand new baby! The calf, L125 Element, was probably about a month old at the time of her first sighting. She looked healthy and happy! Surprise! Has three nieces, L82 Kasatka, L103 Lapis, and L118 Jade. Her nephew is L109 Takoda. Surprise!’s grand-nephews are L116 Finn and L123 Lazuli. Surprise! Has an unnotched dorsal fin and closed saddle patches on her left and right sides. She is named Surprise! Because she was born over ten years after her older sister.
