These animals have been in captivity for over fifty years worldwide, and today there are about 61 captive whales, a number that is difficult to pin down with ongoing captures in Russia's Okhotsk Sea. Cetacean captivity is a complicated issue. Let's learn more about individual parks and their animals. Orkid (left).
In this section of my site, I have created a profile of every known orca in captivity today. Deceased whales are not included. In each profile, I list their name, whether the whale was captured, rescued, or born in captivity, their date of birth or capture, their sex, age, weight, length, breed, and calves in that order. Calves are listed in birth order. A (d) next to a whale's name means that they have died. If information is missing or not assessed, I omit it from the profile. Above each page, there is a header with three pictures of the whales at that park. Click on them to see the captions, IDs, and credits. Thank you so much for reading this page, and I hope you learn something! If there's something thats missing or inaccurate, please let me know.
