The Salish Sea is a region of northwestern Washington, USA, characterized by The San Juans and Whidbey Islands. Haro Strait and Active Pass are some of the best places in the world to see wild whales, and the study of killer whales started right there. Orcas are one of the megafauna native to the Salish Sea, the others being basking sharks, humpback whales, blue whales, grey whales, and more.
Although killer whales live in every ocean, the most studied and well known whales on the planet hail from this little region in Washington.
It's one of my favorite places in the world, and it has changed my life for the better.
