The contributions of photographers to whale research as a whole is immeasurable. From scientists, tour boat captains, to regular citizens and orca enthusiasts, the study of all killer whales could not be conducted without those who photograph them well. I will forever be indebted to them.
I have express, written permission from all of these photographers to use their photos, credited, on this site for educational and portfolio purposes. If a photographer has watermarked their photo, I always leave it there. If you would like your photos to be featured, let's chat! I am always looking for more pictures of whales worldwide.
Shimazu is the captian and naturalist of San Juan Islands Whale Watch, based in Friday Harbor, Washington. Her photos have incredible composition and presence, and she was kind enough to grant me permission to use her photos of wild whales on this site. She's on Instagram at @hysazu. This is J40 Suttles.
This instagram account is owned by a very kind Demetra, who photographs the whales at SeaWorld San Diego and MarineLand Antibes. She has an educated outlook on the whales. Her kindness in letting me use her photos does not go unnoticed! She has a small white watermark on her pictures. (Shouka).
All Aboard Sailing is a charter sailing tour company based in Friday Harbor, Washington. Their captain and photographer is Barbara Howitt. You can tell which ones are hers by a light watermark in the lower left corner. I am so grateful for AAS! This is T122 Centeki in a full launch!
This is an Instagram account that mainly posts photos of the SeaWorld Orlando whales. I really like some of his captions and thoughts about Taku and Kalina. This is Makaio.
This is an Instagram account owned by Aria, who photographs the whales at SeaWorld San Antonio. This is her and Takara.
The California Killer Whale project photographs CA transient killer whales in central California, USA.
Luck is a researcher studying whales in Alaska and allowed me to use her photos of Alaskan residents and transients, as well as Norwegian orcas and Cook Inlet belugas.
These guys are photographers and whale watchers based in Victoria BC. They mostly watch Bigg's, but also have seen some SRKWs, and other local wildlife, like bears and raptors!
There are several photographers whose photos I obtained through Inherently Wild. These are Caio Ribeiro, @cetabaker, @dika_fphotography, Kamogawa Sea World, Orca Pod Wiki, HaH, Port of Nagoya Public Aquarium, Rachel Cali, Chinese Media, SeaWorld, SMSea, and the Russian Orca Project.
