There, she gave birth to Whisper (fathered by Luke) in 1999, followed by three calves in 2000, 2006, and 2008, none of whom survived. In 2009, Crissy became the first recorded cetacean in history to give birth to twins. One twin survived, and was named Bella II. In 2013, she gave birth to Stella. About Luna

Luna was born at SeaWorld San Antonio, and has lived there for her entire life. She has one half brother, Oliver, at SeaWorld San Diego, and a half sister, Whisper, at the Shedd Aquarium. Luna has had four calves. Her first, Atla, was born when Luna was only ten, which is a little young for belugas. Perhaps because of this, Luna rejected Atla, who was transported to SeaWorld San Diego not long after her birth, so that Allua could act as her surrogate mother. Later, she gave birth to two boys, Samson in 2013, and Kenai in 2016. Three years is a short birth increment, but Luna seemed to do much better with them. In 2016, Atla returned to SWSA to live with her mother, and they reunited well by all reports. In 2021, Luna gave birth to a fourth calf, a male named Tulok. Luna has bonded well with her baby.

Trading Bay, Cook Inlet, Alaska, USA: September 30th, 2017

Alaska SeaLife Center, USA: September 30th, 2017

SeaWorld San Antonio, USA: March 8th, 2018

About Tyonek

Tyonek was discovered as a beached newborn in Cook Inlet, Alaska, in 2017. He was only a few days or weeks old, and efforts to find his mom were unsuccessful. The Cook Inlet belugas are an endangered, genetically distinct group of whales. Tyonek was taken to the Alaska SeaLife Center, where it was discovered that he had a partially collapsed lung because of his stranding. This made him unevenly buoyant and therefore unable to dive, and NOAA deemed him unsuitable for release. His hearing and sonar use are also probably only partially functional. The Alaska SeaLife Center had done well caring for Tyonek, but lacked the resources to keep him indefinitely. Additionally, his caretakers knew it would be in his best interest to live in a facility with other belugas. In March of 2018, when he was six months old and strong enough to survive transit, he was transported to SeaWorld San Antonio. He spends a lot of time with Luna, Crissy, and Martha, who have all acted as his surrogate mothers. He also seems to like Innik and Kenai, two young male belugas close in age to him.

Tyonek is amazing. When he was found, he was tiny, sick and injured, and probably really hungry. It's kind of a miracle he survived rescue, and his bounce back to health was incredible. SeaWorld San Antonio is, in my opinion, the best captive facility for him to live out his life in. Tyonek is the only beluga in the world to be successfully rescued. The rest were captured or born in captivity.

About Tulok

Luna gave birth to a healthy male calf on July 23rd, 2021. She has bonded well with him. He was later named Tulok in the Fall of 2021. He is frequently seen riding his mother, Luna's back, like a little beluga backpack.

Ten days after Oliver and Grayson's arrival in Orlando, their tankmate and father, Nanuq, died of a bone infection after fracturing his jaw. It's not known if belugas can discern who their fathers are, given how matriarchal they are.
